The city of Semarang in Central Java, Indonesia, is served by the Ahmad Yani International Airport. The airport receives a large number of domestic as well as international flights on a regularly basis.

The Ahmad Yani International Airport, Semarang is located on the western part of the city, nearly five kilometers from the downtown area. This airport was originally a domestic airport. It became an international airport in the year 2004.



The Ahmad Yani International Airport in Semarang receives flights from all the major cities of Indonesia everyday. The airport has a main runway and receives nearly 1600 to 2000 passengers on a daily basis. The airport receives flights from Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Yogyakarta and others cities of the country. Some of the major airlines that have direct flighst ot this airport inlcude Garuda Indonesia, Merpati Nusantara, Mandala Air, Adam Air, Batavia Air, Sriwijaya Air and Jatayu Air. You can, thus, come to these cities and then take a direct flight to Semarang. As far as international flights are concerned, as of now there is only one flight and that is to and from Singapore. Garuda Indonesia, the national airlines of the country, has flights to Singapore which depart from the Ahmad Yani International Airport.

The government of Central Java is currently planning to develop the Ahmad Yani International Airport, Semarang. Plans have been chalked out to expand the airport and equip it with all the modern features and facilities. As per the new plans, the airport will have a 2850-meter long runway that will be capable of handling Boeing 777, Boeing 747, Airbus A340 and other huge aircrafts. A new terminal will be constructed, which will be 21500 square meters wide and will be able to accommodate 8 small and 2 medium jet planes.

The Ahmad Yani International Airport, Semarang is fast developing and emerging as one of the major airports of Central Java in Indonesia.
